Rating: PG-13 for words
Chapter: 2
Pairing: Paul Gaustad/Derek Roy (buffalo Sabres)
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the guys in this story. And I’m slightly going off from fic_elise’s story where Brian plays for the Leafs, and that him and Ryan are together. And don’t take Derek’s reactions in this too heart.
Chapter 1
When practice was finally done, I could not help but groan a bit. Lindy had made us do double time, after a very bad lost to the Bruins. But then again, we were all kind of out of it, with playing back to back games.
I was slowly taking off my gear, ignoring all the remarks that my teammates were making. Even if they were not about me, I never liked to listening to their jeering at times. And this went for when I was in the foulest of moods. No I was not pissed at anyone. I just could not help but wonder if Andrew let something slip.
Cause those looks I was getting from Paul, just made my stomach twist in on itself. Looking down at my feet, I swore I could feel his gaze on me. As if he was trying to burn a hole through my body. I could then hear him blow out a deep breath, as if to show he was failing.
As I went to finally look up, my view was cut off by someone standing in front of me. Looking the rest of the way up, I could see Andrew snickering at me slightly. “Why such the long face Royise?” I heard him ask as he sat down next to me. All I felt like doing was rolling my eyes at him, and return to taking off my gear. “Fine be like that, Mr. Grumpy.” Andrew then said chuckling a bit as I ignored him.
Shaking his head, Andrew finished changing. Leaving me to think on my own, well from what I knew I was alone. Getting the rest of my gear off, and taking a quick shower in the locker room shower. I pulled my clothes on. Every time I looked over my shoulder, I swore someone was there, watching me.
But what made me jump was the hand that landed on my left shoulder. “Derek…” A voice said, once more making me spin to face who ever was making me feel so jumpy. But before I could say a word, I looked up to see Paul’s face. “W-what?” I finally managed to ask clearing my throat. Trying all my hardest to keep eye contact with him. ‘Gah, why does this have to be so hard?’ I thought to myself wanting to just leave.
“I-I’m sorry if something I said got you upset…” Paul had started, looking just as flustered as I felt. “I did not mean to.” He ran a hand through his hair; this was just as confusing to him as it was to me now. “What do you mean? You said nothing, that’s what’s wrong Paul.” I then said rolling my eyes waving it off like it was no big deal. “Don’t worry about it much Paul.”
Looking at him once, I picked up my bag and headed towards the door. “Its not like, you hurt my feelings or anything.” I then said in a hush voice trying to give him my best smile that I could muster. Closing my eyes I then walked out, leaving him there. Gapping at me like I had suddenly, grew wings and flew away. Like that could ever happen.
-------------------------
My eyes fluttered open as I heard the phone ring, once, and then twice. Finally I gave up on ignoring it; I got up and walked out to pick it up. Hoping it was not Paul, I did not have the time right now to try and talk to him.
“Hello?” I asked stifling a yawn with my hand, while I blinked my eyes a few times. Trying to get them use to the lighting, and the sun coming through the window. “About time you woke up.” A voice said with a laugh. Rolling my eyes I sighed, “What is it Ryan? I was sleeping.” I then said, not stifling this yawn to show I was saying the truth.
Hearing a slight chuckle from the other end of the phone, I could not help but let out a sigh. “Oh right, I’m supposed to believe that? Come on Derek I know you better then that.” I could just hear him, as I pulled the phone way from my ear. Taking off my shirt before I grabbed a new shirt.
Shaking my head, I sighed. “Why is it you truly called me?” I finally asked after pulling on a clean shirt. “Ok, Jay found a pond just out side the city, and we were talking a look at it. And decided we were going out to play some pond hockey.” Ryan said, I could hear him fumbling with something in the background. “And I was told to ask you.” He then finished.
“Who’s all going?” I finally asked, after letting him listen to nothing but silence for about 3 minutes. I then walked out into the kitchen and got an apple from the counter. Waiting for him to answer my question. “Oh just, Jay, Petey, Spacey, Tim, Paul, oh and Brian’s coming down to play as well.” Ryan said his voice cheerful at the mention of the last person that would be joining us. I could not help but groan as he said Paul’s name.
The slight chuckle I heard from the other end, made me blush a bit. “Aw come on Derek, try to at least listen to what’s going on in his life. Paul’s been going though a lot.” Ryan then said his voice serious. At hearing Ryan says this, my heart clenched for a bit as I thought of what possible things Paul could be going through.
“Derek, are you even listening to me?” Ryan huffed into the phone making me blink a few times before I noticed he was still on the other end. ‘God, he can be so pushy at times.’ Was all I could think before I let out a sigh. “Yeah Ryan, I’m listening.” I then muttered taking in a deep breath.
There was a long pause on the other end of the phone. “Good, then get your ass over to Pommers, before I come over there and drag you out myself.” Ryan then said before hanging up, leaving me to groan a bit before setting my phone back on the receiver.
---------------------------
I had finally showed up at Jason’s house, because one: I did not want Ryan showing up and dragging me out. And two: I would get yelled at if I did not show up. “There he is.” I heard Andrew say from behind me as I had walked into Jason’s house, his arm draped across my shoulder. “Took you long enough to get here.” He then said ruffling my hair.
“Hey! Don’t touch my hair.” I snapped a smile playing at my lips as I tried to look upset at him. But I could never be upset with Andrew, who just smiled and laughed.
“Seems like almost everyone is here.” Andrew said as we walked into the kitchen where Jason, Jaro, and Tim were. “And Ryan told me to get my ass over here.” I muttered under my breath shaking my head. “Him and Brian are trying to get Paul out of his house.” Jason said looking up as Andrew and I entered the room.
I could not help but let out a slightly sigh of relief at not having to see Paul so soon. “I swear, he acts like the world is coming down around him.” Jaro said shaking his head, I had heard him, but what made me uncomfortable was the look that Jaro then gave me. Like it was my fault, that Paul’s life was becoming harder.
As I shifted, I could feel Andrews body tense slightly, due to his hand still resting on my shoulder. “Alright, what’s all the fuss in here about?” I swear, I would kill Ryan for making me do stuff I did not want to do. But I never gotten around to it, which was probably for the best since I spent most of my time talking to Andrew. Or maybe it was the other way around, I could not remember. At least I could trust him, or at least I think I can.
Turning my head, I could now see Ryan who had was holding Brian’s hand. And Paul was standing a bit off to the side, hands in pockets and starting at the ground.
“Oh nothing, were all just talking.” Tim said giving Ryan a smile to reassure him. “Come on boys, there’s no need to be standing here all day.” He then said hitting the back of Jaro’s head slightly.
Surpassing a laugh, I covered my mouth while shaking my head. “Come on Der, don’t want to be left behind.” Andrew then said squeezing my shoulder slightly before turning to follow Tim out the door. Rolling my eyes slightly, I followed. ‘This should be just great.’ I thought taking in a deep breath, while giving Ryan a slight glare before stepping out the door. ‘He just has to make Paul come along.’
Looking once more at Paul, I could tell he did not want to be here as much as I did not want to be here. But yet Ryan made us both leave the comfort of our homes. Sighing I pulled out my car keys, we were only taking two cars and it seemed like mine. And Ryan’s were the cars chosen to go.
Hopping into it, I knew Andrew was in the car, one to help me keep from going on a slight rant. And two, to keep my mind off from things. Turning the car over, I had in the car along with Andrew, was Tim and Jason. Who were talking up a storm with Andrew. Turning the car over I waited as Ryan pulled out the driveway, and followed him out.
“Royize, you could at least turn on the radio.” Tim said reaching forward to turn the radio on. “Well you could of told me.” I snapped lightly looking out the windshield, trying to ignore them. While also ignoring the fact that Paul was in the car ahead.
Sighing I let my mind wander slightly, to what he could do to talk to Paul. Or at least get Paul to talk to him.
