Title: City Lights (4/4)
Characters: Dany Heatley, Jason Spezza, Daniel Alfredsson
Rating: PG
Notes: I don't own anything, and as far as I know this never happened.
I squeezed my stick a little tighter when I seen Ray stumble in half way through practice. So much for one of our “best” goalies! I let a shot rocket off my stick from Jase, just missing Chris’ head as it went wide. Chris spun around, staring at me wide eyed. I slowly loosened the grip on my stick, jolting a bit when Jason playfully ran into me.
“Awh come on, what’s got your mind occupied Dany? You’re usually happy during practice!” Jason asked, sticking out his bottom lip as he started to pout. That was usually how he got me to talk. I shook my head a little, taking in a deep breath and skating backwards a bit. I turned and started skating towards the bench. I grabbed my bottle, getting some water before raising an eyebrow at Ray. He was sitting there with his iPod in, looking extremely hung over. I rolled my eyes, skating back towards Jason. I don’t know how or when, but before I knew it, Jason was spraying me with his own water bottle.
“When’d you even get that?!” I exclaimed, laughing as I tried to skate back. I shot some water out of mine at him, grinning when he fell on the ice.
“When you were being emo!” He yelled back, sliding across the ice and playfully knocking my legs out from under me. I laughed, landing next to him and smacking his helmet. Jason giggled, getting up and skating over to the bench with our bottles.
I pulled a t-shirt on and a pair of jeans before there was a knock on my door. I walked over, opening it, only to see Jason standing there with a grin ten miles wide and bouncing from foot to foot.
“…Yes Jason?” I asked, trying to keep the smile off my face. He bounded into the room and proceeded to jump up and down on my bed.
“CLUB TONIGHT CLUB TONIGHT CLUB TONIGHT CLUB TONI--!” Jason shouted, his foot slipping and causing him to crash down unto the bed. I laughed, walking over and ruffling his hair. He had curled into my pillow already and had his stupid grin pasted on his face.
“Somebody’s excited to dance tonight.” I laughed softly, and Jason let out a giggle, holding the pillow tighter to his stomach.
At the club it was awkward. I never liked going out to these things, but Jason always wanted to go. The kid built up energy for this, and I swear he ate fifteen sugar sticks before we came. I sipped on my drink a little bit, keeping a close eye on Jason as he danced with a large group of people. People that were no doubt all on him because he was “Jason Spezza, Ottawa Senators Forward”, not because they knew Jason like me. It disgusted me how fans threw themselves at him. That’s why I came here; I had to make sure Jason was safe. I kept a close eye on him as he danced with some girl, watching as she got super close and everything to him. Did she really think she had a shot? When I thought Jason was looking my way I quickly adverted my gaze. I felt a tap on my shoulder as I looked up at the clock, and I turned my head, almost smacking it off of Jason’s.
“You’re not dancing!” He pouted, taking a seat next to me and yelling over the loud club music. The lights were starting to drive my eyes nuts, and I didn’t know how he could love this place so much.
“I told you Jase, I don’t like to dance.” I said, shouting over the club music. My head was starting to hurt from the bass that seemed to explode in every corner. The lights flashed again, and it took another minute for my eyes to adjust. I seen Jason hop up onto his feet, holding out his hand. I raised my eyebrow at him, silently asking him what he was doing.
“Come on! Come dance with me! Please?!” Jason shouted, jutting his bottom lip out and making his eyes huge. I sighed, taking his hand and letting him lead me onto the dance floor. I moved back and forth awkwardly, watching as Jason easily moved to the beat. Jason looked at me, letting out a small laugh.
“Dany loosen up come on!” Jason shouted, stepping closer and grabbing my hands. He began dancing, trying to get me to move with him. I let out an awkward laugh, trying desperately to match up to his style. Jason smiled when I started to dance a little bit more freely, and let go of my hands. Before I knew it, me and Jason were lost in the mosh pit of people, dancing the night away.
We stumbled into the house around four in the morning, and I leaned against the downstairs door for a moment. Jason was stumbling all over the place, having more than one too many to drink. I looped an arm around his waist and put his arm around my neck and helped him up to his room. The whole time we were on the stairs he was trying to sit down and slide down them, making childish noises every time I pulled him up. I had a hard time keeping Jason upright as I opened his door, trying to keep him quiet so that Daniel wouldn’t wake up. If he woke up, we were sure to get a lecture. I quietly closed the door, wincing as Jason erupted into a fit of giggles.
“Jason, SHUSH! If Daniel wakes up we’re screwed!” I scolded in a whisper, groaning when it only caused him to giggle some more. I helped him over to his bed, sitting him down before turning to leave. I felt him latch onto my arm, yanking me back.
“Dany noooo! Don’t go!” Jason slurred, yanking me down hard so that I landed next to him. I stared at him for a second, before making a move to stand up. Jason tackled me, wrapping his arms around me and pulling himself right up to me. He got a bit more comfortable, and I felt him fall asleep. I rolled my eyes, knowing I was stuck here until he got up. Jason was an affectionate drunk and I knew it. I hesitantly laid my head down on the pillow, feeling the effects of the alcohol starting to hit me.
I felt somebody shift and jolted out of my sleep. I yawned, looking down as Jason detached himself from me. A blush found its way onto his cheeks as he realized what happened the night before. He quickly sat up on his knees, fiddling with a loose string on his shirt nervously.
“Dany I’m really sorry. I…you know how I am when I’m drunk..I…I…” Jason stammered, his words slurring together as he talked faster out of nerves. I let out a small laugh, sitting up and setting my hands on his shoulders.
“Jason it’s fine. I know how you get. You’re like a little kid.” I said softly, reaching up and ruffling his hair. He smiled just a little, looking back down. My smile dropped, instantly getting worried. Jason never felt this guilty after getting drunk. It had happened a few times, and I didn’t mind it. Jason was like my little brother half of the time. Jason got up, walking into the bathroom, shutting the door quietly. I heard the lock click and sighed.
I made some coffee downstairs, leaning against the counter and watching Sports Center play in the other room. I heard Daniel shift on the couch, and seen him walk in, eyeing me. I adverted my gaze, trying to look anywhere but him.
“You two went out last night, didn’t you?” Daniel questioned, grabbing a cup of coffee for himself. I shrugged, looking at the floor as I heard Jason coming down the stairs. He stopped when he seen me, and edged around me to the fridge. He avoided me, getting a bottle of water and walking outside. I looked at the shut door with hurt eyes and sighed.
“Why’s he acting like this Dan? I know how he gets when he’s drunk, it doesn’t bother me.” I asked, sighing as I took a seat at the table, all interest in Sports Center gone. Daniel gave me a reassuring smile, then sighed.
“He’s fine. Sometimes when he has too much to drink he doesn’t remember right away what went on. He probably thought he did something more drastic then what he really did. You should go talk to him, reassure him.” Daniel said softly, opening up the paper and starting reading an article. I nodded a little, getting up and walking outside. Jason was sitting on the porch with his chin on his knees, looking at the empty road with sad and nervous eyes. I took a seat next to him, and he side glanced at me. He mumbled a quiet “hi”, directing his gaze back at the road.
“Jason, nothing happened last night, you know that right? You just got how you always do.” I said softly, watching him from across the porch. Jason looked over at me, then looked back down.
“I’m sure you don’t want me doing all the stuff I used to Dany. I’m a bother, I know it.” Jason said even quieter, and I looked at him sadly. I scooted up next to him and hugged him.
“Jason, you’re like my little brother. I don’t care that you do that stuff. You’re not a bother, and I don’t know WHO told you that but they’re completely and totally wrong!” I said sternly and Jason nodded a bit, gently shrugging out of my grip. He stared back at the road and sighed.
“Thanks Dany, it means a lot.” He said softly, looking at me and smiling a bit. I smiled back, reaching out and ruffling his hair. Jason giggled, swatting my hand away playfully. He pushed me playfully, laughing loudly when I fell backwards. I flipped him off, laughing and sitting back up. I nudged him with my foot, grinning when he scooted away. It was nice to see Jason acting like my little brother instead of how he was acting. Before I knew it, Jason had tackled me and was grinning as I tried to get away. Daniel rolled his eyes from his spot on the porch, muttering a “boys” before walking back inside.
