Title: After Tonight
Author: [livejournal.com profile] champagnexkiss
Pairing: David Krejci/Milan Lucic
Rating: PG13
Disclaimer: Not true as far as I'm concerned or until it is proven true.
Author's Notes: It's been months since I last wrote anything so I'm still a bit rusty/nervous as hell. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] geekintehpink who is my savior/beta who contributed to the last couple paragraphs when my writers block hit me hard. ♥

To the entire metro Boston area, Milan Lucic was suddenly a golden boy. An entire arena would cheer his name after a goal, a fight, or anything else that could ignite the Garden crowd. You had watched from the sidelines to see him go from a fellow development camp attendee to a training camp surprise to a player that didn't play the way a rookie 19 year old should. Now, with a city worshipping at his feet, you were afraid that his head would swell the way your heart did the first day you laid eyes on him.

But it hadn't. Behind the rough 'n' tumble front he'd put on for the cameras, you knew that there was the rarely seen interior few had seen. No one knew that he'd rather sit in front of the TV with a bowl of Capt'n Crunch, watching Saturday morning cartoons instead of attending morning skate. He had a scar on his knee from falling off his bicycle when he was 7 (even though his dad had him not to go down that hill). The fish that was in the tank wasn't the same one that was there before his parents had left for Edmonton. And although his playing style could make anyone beg to differ, he was a lover.

The first time he kissed you, you had to pinch yourself right after to make sure that you were, in fact, awake (and sober). It was while the two of you were at his apartment, watching 'Anchorman.' You felt completely lost since you didn't understand half the one-liners that would make him laugh. He was nested comfortably into the corner of the couch, sitting Indian-style. You would steal glances while reaching for your beer or the butter-doused popcorn he made. Once or twice, you thought he was doing that as well. But you pushed that thought way, way far back into your head. While reaching for another handful, you felt something touching, brushing the tips of your fingers. Too scared to tear your eyes away from the TV, you felt your heart slowly making its way up your throat and that warm touch now grasping your wrist. Slowly turning to the right, you see a mirror image of yourself, except a little darker skinned and maybe a bit more confident looking. It was the kind of thing that could've been pulled out of any teen romance movie and Milan Lucic was playing the heartthrob while you were the flustered one that seemed to forget how to speak. Not that you could've thought of anything to say at that moment. Was it possible to choke on your heart? Because it definitely felt like you could.

After what felt like minutes (it was actually about 5 seconds), you managed to swallow the lump back. He pulled on your wrist, bringing you closer to him. The popcorn bowl moved to where you were just sitting and you now sat in its spot. Just barely glancing up, you could see those dark chocolate eyes reading every emotion that radiated off of you. When you finally had enough courage to actually look at him face-to-face, it just made your heart pound out a rhythm that no metronome could ever mimic. He moved his hand a little further upward, planting it on your upper arm and started, slowly, moving the two of your heads closer. The rhythm was now a steady beat that flowed throughout your body, head to feet. It then came to a swell as the space separating your lips closed.

Oh. My. God. It was the only thing that could come to your mind. Your lips were too busy taking in the mixture of butter and salt, combined with beer and a foreign new taste that just brought it all together into the best flavor you had ever experienced. Your eyes were watching the clique fireworks that had started exploding behind your eyelids. The only thing you wanted to touch was his face and you quickly made that happen. Your thumb brushed his jawline and tried to take in every centimeter of skin the way a blind man would while your fingers stretched to reach and make their way through his short hair.

The taste suddenly faded. The fireworks stopped. Your lips weren't touching anything. It had to have been your imagination working overtime to create this. You opened your eyes slowly and found it wasn't. His face was like a child's after being caught taking a cookie and there was the tiniest bit of crimson finding its way into his cheeks. You discreetly pinched your leg, guaranteeing that is was as real and as solid as you hoped it would be. Without realizing it, a smile spread across your face, a grin actually. The mirror image returned as he smiled brilliantly, which caused your heart to settle back into its correct place and the beat of it returned to normal.

"Might I ask what brought this on?" you asked, keeping that small smile on your face so that he wouldn't think, for even a second, that he'd done anything wrong or unwelcome. No, this wasn't anger or frustration-it was just genuine curiosity.

He shrugged, the light red shade still tinting his skin as he smiled shyly in return. "I don't know, Krej, to be honest..." he said, though you saw that look his face always got when he was lying. Could it be that he'd wanted to do that for as long as you had, too? You had no idea, but you had no complaints, either.

"What? Milan Lucic doesn't have an answer to a question?" You tried to act surprised and smirked, getting a light whack on the side of your head as punishment. You smiled and resettled to watch the rest of the movie, though a little closer than before, and you smiled even wider when you felt his hand touching your shoulder for where his arm wrapped around you, keeping you in place. And it started as a feeling, but from there, you sensed a change -a good change- between the two of you. This was the beginning of something totally different...and that, to you, was absolutely fine.

♥ Just as awesome the second time through, m'dear. It manages to be very powerful, but in a small amount of words. You've still got it, I promise. =)
