notes: The quotes are taken from an actual interview with Gilles Meloche, the Pens goalie coach, at 'Live at the Stanley Cup Final' Media Day last Friday. The story "technically" takes place later Friday night, pre-Game 1 on Saturday. I wanted to post this before we got too far into the series.


"Ty, he's 33, 34 years old...."

"I'm 32, you senile old bastard!" The outburst rings at the screen.

"What are you yelling at?"

"Gilles. Press junk from today."

"Why are you even watching?"

"Oh, sure, you get "best goalie in the league". I get put on the fast track to being Hasek'd."

"Go back." Marc presses the button to the question that started it all.

"How do you keep Ty Conklin, now....really hot?"

"Flower, quit smiling."

"But I know the answer!"

"...he's a good vet; he's a good pro, and you know, he's gonna take just as much credit -- if I do take any credit, Ty Conklin's going to take the credit for working with Marc-Andre..."

"Now you're the one who's smiling."

"Okay, maybe he's not entirely senile yet."

"...in the room, between periods..."

"On the bus, after practice.."

"Before the anthems, after games..."

"And...what time is it now?"

"Bed. Almost." Ty turns and stares at Marc. "Are you nervous about tomorrow the way they all seem to think you are?"

"Yes, no; I mean, it's bigger than anything I've done and there's more pressure but I still have to play my game and not fuck up, you know?"

"Should I be nervous?"

"Why would you be....?" and then dates and history and significance click into place. "Oh. But--"

"Maf," Ty says, which he only very rarely calls him, thus making a point of his next remark, "if you fuck up astoundingly tomorrow I will still love you."

"Ty--"

"If you fuck up astoundingly in Game 7 I'll love you a little less." Ty interrupts him. "I'm joking, I'm joking. Look, some things, you can't control and you certainly don't plan. But I'm saying that if it happens all it means is you'll be just a bit more like me."

"I think I can deal with that."

"They communicate really well and I think Marc-Andre's really taken advantage of that."

"See? You take advantage of me."

"It's only because you're hot."

"Right, I forgot that part."

"But you keep Ty Conklin really hot..."

"By having him work on Marc-Andre Fleury."

I'm really happy that managing to transfer what were *literally* inside jokes from my brain to keyboard is entertaining people.

Getting it into coherence of a story-like format is just icing on the milkshake.
