Title: "One team, one goal!"
Disclaimer: I do not own the song "Never too late" by Three Days Grace or the players
Summary: A songfic about Ryan Miller and his reaction to the loss of tonights game, which leaves the Sabres down by 3 in the series now.
A/N: Just something I wrote to cheer myself up a little and make me think positive still! That and I couldn't sleep and I don't want to do my 3pg paper :)
"This world will never be
What I expected
And if I don't belong
Who would have guessed it
I will not leave alone
Everything that I own
To make you feel like it's not too late"
He stepped out onto the ice still in his goalie equipment. He skated to the net and took his position. Alfredsson’s goal still replaying in his mind. His eyes focused on the past. He turned around to save the ‘puck’ and was left sprawled out on the ice.
"It's never too late
Even if I say
It'll be alright
Still I hear you say
You want to end your life
Now and again we try
To just stay alive"
The sounds of his sigh echo through the empty arena. He knew! He knew he was the only player out there tonight! He won’t blame his team though. He’ll give more in the next game. He’ll make sure his boys give more too! He’ll make sure they won’t give up!
"Maybe we'll turn it around
'Cause it's not too late
It's never too late
No one will ever see
This side reflected
And if there's something wrong
Who would have guessed it"
He knows he has to keep his mask on to not show the emotions running through him now. He can’t show his state of weakness to the media, the fans, and especially to his teammates. They need him. But he needs them too!
"And I have left alone
Everything that I own
To make you feel like
It's not too late
It's never too late
Even if I say
It'll be alright"
He skates over to the bench and takes off his pads and his gloves. He picks up one of the extra sticks and tosses a puck onto the ice. He starts skating with the puck slowly trying to get the feel of it first. He skates down to his end and behind the net. He imagines the players on the ice trying to find an open man. He listens to the crowd chant his name over and over again. He can’t find an open man so he skates with the puck. He skates fast dodging the Senators players while giving them a couple Soupy moves.
"Still I hear you say
You want to end your life
Now and again we try
To just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it around
'Cause it's not too late
It's never too late
The world we knew
Won't come back"
Rick Jeanneret’s calls play through his mind. “Miller has the puck. Skating down the ice fast. Looking for an open man but can’t find one. He winds up, shoots, and SCORES!!!! Ryan Miller scored the game winning goal! Buffalo has won the Stanley cup for the first time in their history!”
"The time we've lost
Can't get back
The life we had
Won't bleed us again
This world will never be
What I expected
And if I don't belong
Even if I say
It'll be alright"
He sighs and mumbles “If only it could be that easy” He skates over to the net and grabs the puck and skates over to the bench. He puts the puck and stick back. He gathers his equipment up before taking one last glance at the open ice. He takes in the silence. One last sigh “One team, one goal” he walks back to the dressing room a little bit more optimistic about Wednesday night’s game.
"Still I hear you say
You want to end your life
Now and again we try
To just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it around
'Cause it's not too late
It's never too late
Maybe we'll turn it around
'Cause it's not too late
It's never too late (It's never too late)
It's not too late
It's never too late"
“We will never give up. We are the Buffalo Sabres. We do not give up. We give it our all until the end”

Date: 2007-05-15 05:57 pm (UTC)I’m a New York Ranger fan, but I said from the beginning that if the Rangers didn’t go all the way that Buffalo deserved to. So from one hockey fan to another I want you to know that I’m rooting for your team and I seriously believe that they can come back!
Anyway, on to your story, I loved everything about it. It’s told in such a simplistic way but it holds such intense emotions…I can’t help but tear up at how frustrating, deflating, and upsetting this all must be for them.
Great Job!

Date: 2007-05-15 06:07 pm (UTC)I was watching interviews with them last night and they are so dissapointed with themselves and frusterated. I teared up during Miller's interview. That's what inspired me to do the story about him really. I was going to do Chris Drury but I thought this was perfect for Miller especially now. I'm glad you liked it! :)

Date: 2007-05-15 06:50 pm (UTC)Hey! Don't you lose hope yet...they can still turn this thing around, they just have to play with a little desperation!
It's got to be so hard being a goalie and thats why I feel so sorry for Miller, goalies always feel like it their fault. Well I'm sure he feels like its his fault along with Drury and Briere. I just hope they can get it together! I really hope that you write more of the Sabres.
