Sidney was wrapped up in his arms. They'd fallen asleep in the same position, Sidney on top of him.
Evgeni was awake now, staring at the form of Sidney in the still room. The sun was slowly rising and he didn't want it to come up.
He liked night. Liked how it felt. Liked what happened. Morning? Just the start of a new day to redo what happened at night.
He wondered if Sidney ever got that feeling inside him. Like he knew what was coming. Knew what was taking place.
Not that he had much idea what they were doing either. They were too young to care. Just taking life as it came at them.
Sidney opened his eyes and Evgeni held him tighter. Sidney put his arms around Evgeni's neck and fell back asleep.
6:10. The orange sun was peeking over the skyline, covering it in color. Shadows from the morning dew on the window glanced about the room.
Evgeni didn't want to move Sidney off him. He liked the way he felt on top of him and how he could sleep so calmly. He sighed.
Sidney's leg brushed over his and sent a spark through him. He wanted to stay like this. Holding him, watching him, seeing he could be a human.
Sidney could fall asleep faster than anyone he knew. One minute you could be talking to him and the next he'd be out cold.
He chuckled to himself. Sidney must have heard him because his half-awake head lifted up. Sidney rolled out of bed and landed on his butt.
Evgeni was already standing over Sid and pulled him up. He carried him into the kitchen and sat him down on a chair.
"Mm Geno." Sidney was too sleepy to say 'morning' correctly. Evgeni crawled his arms around Sid and tilted his head backwards towards him.
Sidney was staring at Evgeni's eyes. Evgeni put his finger to Sid's lips. The Russian smoothed out the roughness and placed his lips on Sidney's.
He ran his tongue slowly over the lips of the still leaning back Sidney. He pulled away from him.
Sidney opened his eyes and uprighted himself. He was awake now. Well, as awake as you can be first thing in the morning.
They couldn't really go anywhere during the day. The couldn't go anywhere in Pittsburgh without Sidney being recognized.
He was a walking magnet. Everyone was attracted to him. A giant fucking magnet. Evgeni was surprised at how well he handled it.
People would sometimes recognize Evgeni, but with Sid next to him all anybody did was narrow in on Sidney.
It made it hard for Evgeni. Not being able to do a simple thing as get lunch with him without people coming up.
The first few times were ok. Now he just got tired of it. Nighttime was better. Sidney's face was less noticeable in the dark.
That was another reason Evgeni liked night. He had Sid nearly all to himself when out. No one wanted to bother them at dinner.
No one ever thought much when Sidney and Evgeni were out. Teammates. Out for a meal and a chat.
Nothing could be suspected of that. Sometimes they added Army to the bunch. Just in case.
Sidney was laying on his back on the floor. The open window covering the room in sunshine. Evgeni was showering and Sidney was waiting for him.
They had to take separate showers every once and a while. The same routine would get boring quickly. They didn't want to overdue it.
The afternoon was a dreadful time of day. Hot and yucky out unless it was winter. They loved winter. Kids would play street hockey and Sid and Evgeni would look on.
Wondering if they could join in. Wondering if the kids would hassle them for being NHL stars and all. Or just hassle them in general.
They could go outside and have snow fights. Walk around the hectic town near Christmas. Sidney had had his share of that.
Evgeni stepped out of the shower and put his towel around his lower body. Shaking his head and letting water fly everywhere.
Sidney had relocated to the bathroom. He liked watching Evgeni shower. His movements, how he would hum some random tune.
He sighed a bit too loud and Evgeni found him.
"Hey Sid."
"Um hey Geno. Enjoy your shower?"
"Very much."
"That's good."
Sidney hated being found spying. He didn't know what Evgeni thought about it. Probably forgot about it or put it away for later use.
He sulked into the kitchen and poured himself some orange juice. As he put away the container Evgeni's voice came from behind him.
"Sid why?"
"I don't know Geno. I honestly don't. Just don't be mad at me."
"I not mad just curious."
"Alright. So we're good then?"
Evgeni nodded and headed back down the hall. Sidney bit his lip and stared after him.
He remembered the first time:
He and Evgeni were getting undressed in the Pens locker room.
It had been a big night but they pulled through.
"Good job tonight Geno."
"You too Sidney."
He walked over to Evgeni and patted him on the back. "No I mean it. You were hell out there."
"Uh, thanks?"
"It's not a question." He smiled and walked back over to his locker.
Everyone else had cleared out faster than them.
"Hey Geno, I wanna talk to you."
"Go for it."
"You look at me a lot on the ice. It's in a certain way though. It's not like the way everyone else does."
"Is bad thing?"
"No not at all."
"What you getting at?"
"Thing is Geno..."
Evgeni looked at him curiously. He scanned the room for signs of anyone else. Sid got the all clear and moved closer.
Evgeni grabbed him and forced his hands down Sid's pants. He watched as Evgeni pulled them off from the inside out. Fast as hell.
"Fuck Geno!"
"Shut up Kid."
"You're not that much older!"
"Said shut up."
Evgeni pushed himself and his hipbones into Sidney. The mere force of it landed them on the floor.
Sidney walked into Evgeni's room and sat on the bed. That had been the best night. It hadn't mattered that they were both tired from the game.
They wanted each other. They'd stay with each other. Hopefully until they couldn't anymore. He didn't want to think about that. He just wanted to live now.
He couldn't be happier. He couldn't ask for me. He'd been given the best life he could ask for. He was gonna use it to the max and live every moment.
Because he had Evgeni. Because he had the Penguins. Because he was one of the best in the NHL. Because he didn't want anything else.
He didn't know anything other than this. Anything other than...
Now.
