Overwhelmed

Title: Overwhelmed
Characters: Zdeno Chara and Aaron Ward
Rating: PG for imagery.
Summary: Losing sucks
Note: Just a drabble
Disclaimer: Fiction, not fact

Zdeno Chara stood in a corner of the empty shower room in Montreal, the water pounding the small of his back,  holding Aaron Ward in his arms.

Bandoliers of ace bandages crisscrossed Aaron's legs, holding massive bags of ice around both knees. The bandages sagged, pieces of ice dropping haphazardly, plopping and cracking on the cement floor, and the veteran defenseman,  the feeling in his legs now almost unbearable as the painkillers and adrenaline wore off, leaned on his captain and wept.

Zdeno put one arm gently around his defensive partner's heaving shoulders, rested a cheekbone against Aaron's close-cropped head, and spoke quiet words of comfort.

The water ran, the ice dropped, the tears fell. The playoffs were over.

So short, but so good at the same time. Great job!

Awww *squishes the broos* this almost makes me feel bad.

At least they have their sexy bodies to comfort one another through the playoffs, right?

:( That didn't help me feel better about the loss. I like the imagery of the ice dropping though. Symbolism and all that.

What a beautiful scene between these two. I love all of the imagery here. I am a huge fan of this pairing, and you wrote them very well. Thank you for sharing this.

teammate tenderness! bonding through the pain of losing! wah; i love it.

great imagery, especially the idea that the season is washing away (dreams and hopes, yeah, but everything else, too, and you start clean on the other side).

you say a lot with a wee little. drabble-form ftw!
