Got to admit, I got that image from "Ball Four," when a pitching coach dismisses the notion of Larry Dierker being a rube by saying something like "Did you think he came to this town on a load of watermelons?" Had to use turnips, though. Turnips are funny. ;-)

Much of what Milan is thinking is actually lifted from interviews he did throughout the year about his rookie year in Boston, how he was adjusting, who was mentoring him, etc. etc. This all works better, IMHO, when you use RL stuff as a foundation.
