He's not, as far as I read, particularly angelic even in this version! But that's just how I read it. I mean, he totally ignores Phil, and basically assaults his 'boyfriend' (for lack of a better term) right in front of him, without really pausing to see if either of them have anything to say. I know he wants to make sure Phil's safe, but I can't imagine if I were Phil I'd react too well to this.
