Oh. This is brutal in so many ways. It's fascinating that the anonymous girl sees right through Brian, but Ray can't (or won't?).

Blinking slowly he focuses on the road, and only on the road, wondering almost idly how they can sit there and nearly be fucking while he drives, both of them knowing, seeing, watching him for half the night, and can see how fucked up he is.

This line is very perceptive. I think when we're in pain, we feel like everyone else should be able to see it as clearly as we feel it. It's very self-centered, but it rings true to me.
