Ryan and Brian didn’t talk to each other for a week after it happened. They interacted. They ate together, they dressed together, they slept together, they watched TV together. They were quiet. Nothing was different, and yet nothing felt the same. Everything felt gone forever.

They touched softly, and they were both still broken.

“I’m glad that damn beard is gone.” Miller said, braving the first words. And Brian stared at him. Miller didn’t look at him, and Brian searched for words. Miller closed his eyes and sighed. Brian held his shoulder.

“That’s a dirty lie and you know it.”
