Summary: Russian Love triangle!!! ::ahem:: Dainius moves to Buffalo holding a promise the he quickly forgets.
Authors Notes: It’s wrote very odd. Sort of humorous. Lots of love for Maxim.
Disclaimer: I don’t own, because it’s pretty hard to own a person... oh and nothing like this ever happened...((or it might have we just don’t know yet...))
They both knew he’d be gone in February and if it wasn’t then, he was going during the summer. Alex made him promise they’d stay together no matter what. See each other whenever they could. Talk on the phone and those sorts of things.
But then Dainius got traded to the Sabres. If it was any other team, he knew that there little promise could be held through and through. The reason the Sabres were different was because of Maxim Afinogenov, and right when the news was broken to Dainius that his new home, at least for the remainder of the year would be in Buffalo, he knew that stepping off that plane all those promises wouldn’t cross his mind.
This was mainly because Maxim Afinogenov offered Dainius to move in with him. They both knew each other pretty well, and Dainius wasn’t sure where he’d be living later. That night, well, lets just say it was exciting. And for the first time in a long time Alex Ovechkin never crossed his mind once. Ovechkin who? He’d ask if Alex would have been mentioned.
Alex started calling Dainius and asking him “What are you doing?” and he’d say “Just visiting friends.” and Alex would say he didn’t want to interrupt and tell him to call him later and Dainius never would. But if you were involved with Maxim Afinogenov, would you remember to call someone? Dainius was never a cheat, but seriously, this is Maxim Afinogenov!
Alex was the type of person to talk on the phone for a long time, and Dainius wasn’t. This might be because, well, Maxim Afinogenov was in the other room waiting for him. Alex often wondered how Dainius always was ‘Just visiting friends’ when he’d only been in Buffalo a month or two.
Dainius didn’t realize they’d be playing the Capitals until the day before. He looked at the schedule taped on Maxim Afinogenov’s fridge. He read down the list scratching his bare lower back and sipping a coffee mug. He almost dropped it when he read the date of the game. That’s why if you watched the local news that night when asked about playing his former team Dainius always stated how nervous he was. He wasn’t worried about the actual playing. The real reason was Maxim Afinogenov and a little bit of Alexander Ovechkin. He didn’t want to be pummeled into the boards like Daniel Briere was way back in December.
Alex was expecting something way different when they first saw each other. While he was glad Daniel had forgiven him, he found it annoying when he skated over to him instead of Dainius doing so. He nodded and listen to Daniel’s Canadian accent blabber on and on. He was relived when Daniel finally skated away and Dainius finally skated over. What he wasn’t expecting was Dainius off in a zone hardly listening. Dainius was looking at the floor and clearly thinking of something else. All he said was ‘We will talk later’. At least he didn’t say ‘Just visiting friends’ again. A sentence that Alex had never wanted to hear ever again.
Dainius went with Alex to his hotel room. Alex was excited clearly oblivious to what was about to happen. He was like a little girl on a first date. Thinking they were together again after being apart so long. And when Dainius sat him down and told him, he was completely and utterly confused. Who? and What? And How could he?! Dainius’ answer to all three questions was “Maxim Afinogenov.” It’s impossiable to resist Maxim Afinogenov. Well at least for Dainius Zubrus it was.
